What Are The Objectives For Your Site?

  • Is your site effective (achieving objectives)?

    • Don't fall into the trap of designing your website for YOUR needs, design it for your customers needs

    • The only reason my web site exists is to solve my customers' problems.

    • Litmus test: What problems does the page I'm looking at solve?

    • Most people visit a website to solve one or more of the following three problems:
      1. They want/need information
      2. They want/need to make a purchase/donation
      3. They want/need to be entertained

    • You should be able to look at the home page of any site and figure out what the site is about within a few seconds. If you can't, your site has failed.

  • Who is your target audience? (Nike versus Bank of America)

  • Remember, unless you're an online store, your website is not your marketing strategy. Your web site is part of your marketing strategy.
